Red Sunrise

This morning we had a red sunrise.

On the radio they said that an old sailor’s saying about a red sunrise was “Red at night, sailor’s delight; red at dawn, sailors be warned”, then commented the last time there was one of these in the area was the day we had the derecho (which is kind of like a horizontal tornado) that knocked out the power for a week. Thankfully that didn’t happen today.

They occur due to due to the sun being farther off in the horizon and having to pass through/bounce off of more particles and the blue rays, which are shorter than the red ones, which are the longest in the spectrum, are scattered so in the morning or evening they sky can take on an auburn hue.
