Sock Reindeer

Picture 830

This was on display at my dentist office when I went in for my teeth cleaning today, but we have made similar ones in the past and it is easy enough for grade schoolers (but an adult would need to stitch the antlers ahead of time) to do with a bit of supervision.   We have also used foam sheets or evergreen twigs; in this case no sewing required!

What you would need:

  • A tube sock
  • Felt or fleece in maroon, green and brown or black
  • 1 red Pom Pom
  • 2 black buttons
  • Fiber fill stuffing
  • Sewing machine
  • Scissors
  • 1 rubber band
  • Red ribbon
  • 2 jingle bells
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Stuff the sock with fiberfill but not all the way to the end.  Secure the end with a rubber band then tie a ribbon in a bow around it.

For the antlers and holly, cut 2 pieces for each antler (instead of the shape above, drawing around a child hands make great antlers,   Cut out the holly leaf pieces and stitch to the front then then stitch together the front and back pieces then stuff with the fiberfill and stitch at the end on each side.

For the eyelashes, cut a 2 pieces of brown felt about an inch wide and about 2 inches long (depending on your button size) and cut on one of the long sides about 1/4 inch or so apart.    For the mouth cut a heart out of the red felt.

You the hot glue the mouth, nose, eyes, eyelashes and antlers to the sock to make it look like a reindeer.  For the reigns hot glue a piece of ribbon around the mouth area in a circle, then a piece of ribbon on each side going towards the back then add a jiggle bell on each side.
