Over the weekend weekend I went to Dollar Tree and picked up the above large blow up splash toys that I plan on putting in shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child to ship out in November.

The first thing looks to be an Salamander or a giant tadpole, the middle one a clown fish and the last one an Orca.  I picked them up because  when my son was young we had something similar that brought him a lot of joy both in and out of the pool.

When my son was around 3 and loved watching “Free Willy” and I purchased a much more expensive version at Walmart.  Kyle liked to sit with it when he watched the movie over, and over and over.   Even if there isn’t much water wherever they end up, they can use their imagination to pretend and carry it around or toss it in the air.

He tried to take it in the bathtub one time but it was too big.   When we went to the pool at the apartment complex we lived at he was a little to small to be in the shallow end by himself so I had to get into the water and of course “Willy” had to come along and he always wanted to hold onto the tail and have me pull him around the pool to pretend he was riding him.  Next thing I knew other kids had hitched a ride as well and I used to get quite a workout trying to pull Willy around, but I enjoyed how happy it made the kids.

I am hoping these toys bring as much joy to the kids that end up with them as did with my son.

  1. I hope they don’t tug on my “Willy”
