From the plaque at Depot park, back in the 1800 the trenches for the railroad tracks were all dug by hand.   From this angle is shows what a daunting task that would have been.

  1. in the background is the summit. The train depot was located at the base of the incline but the train engine could not make it up the grade from a standing start so the depot was moved to the summit.
