This is the first crock pot I have ever purchased new around Christmas this past year as there was a good sale on it – don’t recall exactly where or the price – around $15-$20, but I liked that it had a removable pot, which is something I had always wanted in a crock pot.

I really like it as it has enabled me to come home to a hot dish on a cold day with little effort, just a bit of forethought the night before to put something in it.  It has also helped me clean out my freezer by creating stews and soups out of frozen veggies, along with leftover fresh ones, like carrots, celery, potatoes or garlic and by adding either tomato juice, powdered chicken broth or dry onion soup mix with different herbs and spices to create a stew of sorts.

I have found that the crock pot tends to run hotter than other crock pots I have had in the past; the “warm” setting is enough to cook veggies if put in the night before and getting home the next evening.  The “Low” setting might be useful if you put something in the morning and wanted in the evening and the “High” setting is probably for something you put in in the afternoon but want mid to late evening.

  1. Kathy made some bean stew with bacon. would rather eat that than eating out—even with friends from work!
