Philo T. Farnsworth House

farnsworth house1The sunny yellow home with white trim, gray roof and a white picket fence was once home to the Father of Television, Philo T. Farnsworth from 1948 to 1967 and is on the Historic Register.

The weathered plaque out front reads:

“Home of Philo T. Farnsworth

Home 1948 to 1967 of Farnsworth.   Inventor of television.   Farnsworth (1906-1971)  was  instrumental in perfecting the image formantion mechanism which enabled the first effective image transmission in 1927.  Farnsworth Radio and Television Corporation in Fort Wayne 1938-1949).

Another unique thing about this house is that it was built by one of Indiana’s first female architects,  Joel Roberts Ninde, despite not having any formal training.   This house was built in 1905.   But she, her husband another business partner, Grace Crosbie, designed and built over 300 homes in Fort Wayne, IN from 1901 to 1916.
